The recurrent theme throughout Povey’s practice is trace and many of the works are inspired by walks through the farmland near where the artist grew up. Her aim is to create immersive pieces, often working on a large scale where she can lose herself in the dimensions of paper. Povey says, “I approach work in an energetic manner and build surfaces through a myriad of mark making. I am inspired by the tactile quality of ink and approach it as a sculptural device, working intuitively and allowing the unique properties of ink to dictate the progression of the work.
